Blood Circulation
No Preview
Blood circulation assay is an in-vitro (lab environment) test that helps us to study the angiogenic property of our test products. Angiogenesis is a physiological process that involves the formation of new blood vessels by the endothelial cells from existing ones that increases blood flow & circulation to the skin. Endothelial cells form a layer lining all blood vessels and regulate exchanges between the bloodstream and the surrounding tissues.
We test all our formulations on human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) lines to check their angiogenic effect.
What Are HUVEC Cells & Why We Use Them?

Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) are isolated from the umbilical cord vein. They are extensively used to study endothelial cell function during hypoxia, inflammation, oxidative stress, infection, and angiogenesis. They serve as an excellent tool for investigating the angiogenic effect of our products as they mimic the physiological, biological & developmental properties of skin endothelial cells in an in vitro (testing in a lab) environment.

Step 1
Plating Cells On The Basement Membrane Extract
pattern

The first step involves suspending three sets of cells in basal membrane extracts (BME). BME is an extracellular matrix hydrogel that acts as a basement membrane for the HUVEC cells. It maintains...

Step 2
Tube Formation
pattern

After the cells are plated on the BME containing laminin, collagen IV, entactin, and proteoglycans, tube formation begins to take place. HUVEC cells increase...

Step 3
Measuring The Length Of Tube Formation
pattern

Tube formation begins in 2-4 hours, and reaches its peak at 6-8 hours. The three sets of cells are observed under and captured using phase contrast microscope. These images...

What's The Final Result?
For a product to have an angiogenic property, the length of its tube formation should be greater than the untreated control. At Areoveda, the tested products reveal similar results!
